Meet the team

  • Monica Kozakiewicz

    Co-owner/Founder and Teacher

I am beyond grateful to be continuing my path as a certified Montessori educator with the formation of Planting the Seed Montessori. A Montessorian at heart, I strive to bring my teaching experience along with my love of the philosophy to the table as we create a beautiful, enriching, and peaceful environment. With an MFA in Applied Drama/Theatre for Young Audiences, I also hope to provide opportunities for creative drama within our curriculum to enhance the children’s learning experience and provide a variety of creative outlets. While I’ve always had a strong passion for working with the very young, Montessori gave me a way to guide the child’s holistic growth while also planting the seeds of knowledge to inspire their love of learning for years to come.

  • Sarah Bowers

    Co-owner/Founder and Teacher

From my early days as a social worker to my more recent years as a Montessori assistant teacher, I have found deep inspiration from my commitment to celebrate young children. I first had the experience of seeing how a Montessori education could transform my own children’s lives. They learned to listen to their inner voice, follow their curiosity, and absorb new concepts from their environment, teachers and peers. Early childhood education is my passion, and I am so thrilled to open our home to young children for this purpose. We are all so grateful for this beautiful space to inspire children in their growth. Within each child in our care, we will foster the tiny, fierce sprouts of wonder and magic as they learn about themselves and their world.

  • Merry Ripley

    Co-owner/Founder and Business Manager

I am a Montessorian by nature; gently qualified in 2010 for upper elementary, previously educated with a bachelors of social work, and currently hold an MBA from Walsh College. I am a mother and a wife filled with entrepreneurial ideas, stemming from my years of traveling and living abroad. I’ve worked in the Montessori environment for over 6 years, 2 years in each- upper el, toddler room, and as a bookkeeper. The beautiful and personally created environment for children’s exploration is such a bright new path for us to forge ahead together in Planting the Seed Montessori. Let us be the light to germinate the growth of our sowed seeds.

  • Kaitlyn Valor Bourque

    Assistant Teacher

A bonafide “Montessori Kid” and lifelong lover of learning, I spent my introductory school years benefitting from the remarkable strengths of the Montessori Method. The child of a Montessorian, I grew up immersed in the method, applying the fundamentals both in school and at home. Being encouraged from a very young age to follow my instincts in the thoughtfully-structured, secure environment of a Montessori classroom instilled a lifelong curiosity and trust in my own inner compass — a compass that led to the pursuit of a diverse range of dreams, down paths ranging from academia (Wayne State University, Oakland Community College) to small business (Detroit Dye House) to show business (Planet Ant Theatre, Slipstream Theatre Initiative, Matrix Theatre Company, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts NYC) to childcare (private nanny) — and it is in this field that I have found the most genuine satisfaction and inspiration: working one-on-one with children. The combined impact of Montessori and my collective life experience has supported me through all of my endeavors, undeniably informing my work as a professional early childhood caregiver for the past decade. It is with absolute joy and excitement for the adventures ahead that I join the wonderful team at Planting The Seed!

  • Jake Kapusta

    Assistant Teacher

I was born nowhere in particular, and enjoyed a free-range childhood full of self-directed learning and exploration. Having teachers for parents (and artists to boot!) gave me a deep appreciation for the intersection between early childhood education and the inherent creativity that burns inside of Us all. I've enjoyed a fruitful career in design and emerging technologies, which has bridged the worlds of STEM education, medical prosthesis, and computer animation. I truly look forward to engaging with kiddos on their level; an opportunity to play, explore, learn and grow in the most supportive environment in town. Nice to meet you!

  • Marzina Clarke

    Substitute Teacher

I have worked with children most of my life, no matter where life takes me, I always come back to children and education. Although my degree is in Business Management and Japanese Language, I have once again been drawn into the folds of education. My most recent and fulfilling experiences have been as a Summer Camp Director (2 years), a Building Substitute for a Pre-K-8 school (6 years) and here at Planting The Seed. When it was time to enroll my child in school, I was looking for an option that would nurture my bright, curious, and cautious little lady. An environment that would challenge and encourage her, and teach not only classroom lessons, but life lessons. I found it when I was introduced to Montessori. When children are allowed to grow at their own pace and explore without boundaries their options are limitless. Planting The Seed is such a place! A place where your little one can learn, grow, explore, and create! "Oh, the places you will go!' - Dr. Seuss
