The Basics

  • Ages

Welcoming children ages 3-6. The youngest age we accept is 2 years and 9 months when starting.

  • Hours

Our school day is from 8am-3:30pm. We offer both full and half day schedules and options to attend 3, 4, or 5 days per week. After-care is offered Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5pm.

  • Class size

We welcome up to 12 students each year. We maintain a ratio of at least one teacher to every 6 children.

Montessori Philosophy

“Never help a child with a task he feels he can succeed.” Maria Montessori

A Montessori environment encourages the child’s independence whenever possible, freedom within limits, and to learn through doing. Our teachers follow the child by observing their strengths, interests, and patterns to create a stimulating and enriching environment that both entices and challenges their students. The classroom is set up with furniture and materials at the child’s level so they are able to complete most tasks independently. Lessons are given one on one with a teacher or in small groups to ensure each child is moving through the curriculum at a pace that is appropriate for their individual development.

Curriculum Areas

“Play is the work of the child.” Maria Montessori

Materials used in each area of the classroom give the children a hands on and concrete way to explore each topic that is studied.

Our curriculum areas include:

Practical Life - This area teaches every day life skills while practicing order, coordination, concentration, and independence.

Sensorial - These materials encourage learning and discriminating through each of the five senses.

Math - Our math curriculum uses Montessori’s bead system to help children begin their journey in learning mathematics with concrete items.

Language - We begin the process of learning to read by learning letter sounds first using Montessori’s sandpaper letters and then move on to building words with the Montessori moveable alphabet.

Writing - Children are given many opportunities to strengthen their hand in preparation for writing and participate in different handwriting exercises.

Science - We explore many aspects of science including the animal kingdom, life cycles, physical science, geology, and botany.

Geography - Through the course of the year, we explore each continent in depth supported by the Montessori puzzle maps.

Culture - As we journey through the world in geography, we also deeply explore the many cultures that fill our world.

Art - An art shelf is always available for children to explore and express themselves creatively. Throughout the year we will study various artists from all different parts of the world as well.
